Browns Hotel has a license for civil ceremonies and is able to offer an onsite facility for all "Celebratory Ceremonies", including civil marriages, renewal of marriage vows, naming ceremony and commitment ceremonies.

The ceremony can be conducted by a religious celebrant or registrar of your choosing. Our dedicated and experienced events team is available to discuss any aspect of your special day. Whatever your requirements are - we are here to help plan your special day resulting in a truly unique, precious and memorable day.

Civil Ceremony

Browns Hotel is ideally situated in the heart of the award winning town of Tavistock. The breathtaking moors, the Hotel's walled courtyard terrace & the historic stables provide an idyllic backdrop for your wedding photographs. Our dedicated wedding co-ordinator will ensure that your tailor-made wedding reception is unique to you.

With a variety of rooms and contemporary spaces licensed for marriage, Browns Hotel can accommodate from 10-150 guests for a civil ceremony.

Unlike many other venues, we only book one ceremony per day. We offer many options of rooms where the marriage ceremonies can be performed.

If the weather is fine, the bride and groom can choose to make their vows under the canopy of the orangery, with guests seated or standing in the courtyard. In this case, the number of guests is virtually unlimited.

Civil Ceremonies can be held on any day of the week in-between the hours of 08.00 - 18.00, including bank holidays.
